Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make HIS FOOTSTEPS our pathway. (Ps 85:13 – emphasis added)
This verse has captured my heart on more than one occasion. This Psalm is a prayer that God will restore favor to the land.
A few verses previous to verse 13, the Bible states that God’s salvation is near to those who fear Him that glory may dwell in the land. (see Ps 85:9) The very fact that we are born again—SAVED by the grace and the plan of God—means that glory does dwell in our land!
How? My view is that God’s own life in us—His glory in us—IS the glory in the land. (See Ro 8:18; 2 Co 1:20; Eph 1:6)
By His grace we are saved. (Eph 2:5; 2:8; 2 Tim 1:9) According to Ephesians 1:6, there is GLORY within the grace of God. Since His grace has been poured out upon us, and since He lives within each one of us, it is logical to come to understand that God’s glory has been placed within each believer.
As we live our lives in obedience to God and to His Word, and as we display God’s unselfish love to all mankind, we bring Him glory, honor and praise. We literally walk in His footsteps and in His righteousness always–living life according to His personality, His Word, and His standards. We also follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.
What an unfathomable and precious honor we have been given. Living life in continuous praise and thanksgiving to God. Let each one of us shine brightly for Jesus, O glorious ones!
