Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord. (Lk 1:45, emphasis added)
This verse of Scripture is a portion of Elizabeth’s prophecy to Mary, the virgin who gave birth to Jesus.
Mary had the humility, faith, and wisdom to believe what the angel (who appeared to her) had said to her.
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. (Lk 1:35, underlining added)
Mary submitted to the Word that she received, and to the will of God for her. Even though what she heard meant that she might be ridiculed and outcast, she yielded to God. He fulfilled His Word to her, and she was blessed. God spoke to Joseph, her betrothed, in a dream and instructed him to marry her, which he did.
We, too, should submit to the Word and expect its fulfillment in our lives. Mary, after all, was a fellow believer who loved God and lived a holy life. God saw her heart, and He chose her to share in the miracle of the Savior’s birth.
What a gift to mankind Mary’s faith and obedience produced!
