The Helpful Holy Spirit

The Helpful Holy Spirit

The Bible describes the Holy Spirit as ‘the Helper’ as well as a teacher in John 14:26 (NKJV).  He truly is our helper, and we should praise God for this truth.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.  (Joh 14:26 NKJV)

The Holy Spirit will teach us all things and remind us of what we have learned from Him.  For example, when we get riled by some inconsiderate driver in traffic, and call that person an unflattering name, the Holy Spirit will convict us to repent and to pray for that driver.

. . . because I know that your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Christ Jesus will keep me safe.  (Phil 1:19 CEV)

The help that comes from the Holy Spirit keeps us safe.  Hallelujah!

Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.  (Act 9:31 NIV)

The Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom to have a respectful reverence for the Lord.  He helps us to learn about the wonderful characteristics of the love of God, and to appreciate them.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.  (Rom 8:9 NKJV)

Because the Holy Spirit dwells within us (1 Cor 3:16), we know that we are led by the Lord, especially in spiritual matters.

The Holy Spirit helps us to know how to pray, and will even give us the words to pray, if we will be sensitive to His guidance.

The unity of the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit forms the Godhead.  The Godhead is united in purpose and implementation of God’s plan for mankind.

God’s plan for mankind is good and gives us a future and a hope.  (Jer 29:11)

The Holy Spirit gives us life and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  His work is to exalt Christ in our hearts.  The Holy Spirit strengthens us and by grace, enables us to persevere in faith.  Glory to God!

You Are God’s Temple

You Are God’s Temple

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.  (1 Cor 3:16-17)

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  (1 Cor 6:19)

And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”  (2 Cor 6:16 – emphasis added)

The Word of God tells each and every believer, “You are the temple of the living God.”  That’s pretty mind-blowing, right?  Yes, we may accept it as fact that the Spirit of God indwells each one of us, but have we really thought deeply about it?

The physical, earthly temple of the Israelites had three parts:

  • the exterior of the structure and outer court;
  • the holy place (which the priests, alone, could enter), and
  • the Holy of Holies within the veil that could only be entered once a year.

We also have three parts:

  • Our body, the exterior part;
  • Our soul where our minds, emotions, and will reside; and
  • Our spirit, our inner heart—where the Spirit of God dwells and through which He works His works and sanctifies us wholly.

With respectful and joyful confidence, we need to ponder this mystery.  The Spirit of God will direct our thoughts, actions, and lives if we will lovingly yield to Him.  If we will obediently learn to be sensitive to the inner voice of the Spirit, He will unveil the mysteries of our faith to us.  He will commission us to serve Him, and to serve others in the name of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of relationship—belonging.

. . . who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.  (2 Cor 1:22)

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise . . . (Eph 1:13, see also Eph 4:30)

We are sealed with the Holy Spirit.  This seal identifies us to angels and demons as being children of God and anointed by God—set apart unto Him.  We belong to God; we are His prize and His possession.  Take some time to ponder this truth, and to revisit it from time to time.  You are blessed!

Jesus Has Got You Covered!

Jesus Has Got You Covered!

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  (Ps 91:1)

Jesus, as our Savior, poured out His blood on the mercy seat in heaven for our salvation.  (Lev 16:14-15)  Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world.  (Joh 1:29; Rev 13:8)

We are the sheep of His pasture (Ps 95:7; 100:3) and we do abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  Our Savior has covered us with the blood of the Lamb, so that we may REST in the shadow of the Almighty.

Remember when the good Samaritan poured oil and wine on the wounds of the injured man on the roadside? (Lk 10:30-37)  The Samaritan did that to cleanse the wound, to soothe it, and to promote healing.

Jesus pours oil on our wounds for our healing.  The wine represents Jesus’ blood.  The blood of a lamb has a cleansing agent in it (in the natural realm).  Jesus’ blood supernaturally cleanses us from all sin, guilt, and shame.  His blood is sufficient.  Receive His cleansing.  Understand that all of your sin and guilt have been washed away!

Stop striving in your soul.  Jesus has already done everything for you!  Relax in God’s arms.  Abide in Him and rest.  He’s got you covered.  Allow God to bless you and to give you rest.
